How To Install libcrcutil-doc on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install libcrcutil-doc on Debian 9. libcrcutil-doc is library for cyclic redundancy check (CRC) computation - documentation

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libcrcutil-doc on Debian 9.

What is libcrcutil-doc

libcrcutil-doc is:

Crcutil library provides efficient implementation of CRC algorithms. It includes reference implementation of a novel Multiword CRC algorithm invented by Andrew Kadatch and Bob Jenkins in early 2007. The new algorithm is heavily tuned towards modern Intel and AMD processors and is substantially faster than almost all other software CRC algorithms.

Included whitepaper describes the details of Multiword CRC algorithm as well as other algorithms and CRC manipulation routines implemented by crcutil library.

Crcutil library computes:

  • Hardware-assisted CRC32C: 0.13 (Nehalem) CPU cycles per byte.
  • 64-bit and smaller CRCs: 1.0 (Nehalem) - 1.2 (Core) CPU cycles per byte.
  • 128-bit CRCs: 1.7 CPU cycles per byte.

Since computational speed of 64-bit CRCs is identical to 32-bit and 16-bit, the use of crcutil library enables widespread use of more reliable 64-bit CRCs instead of 32-bit ones.

As a bonus, crcutil also implements a number of useful CRC “tricks” (e.g. computation of CRC of concatenated blocks of data of known length and CRC without touching actual data).

This package provides PDF documentation.

There are three methods to install libcrcutil-doc on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libcrcutil-doc Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libcrcutil-doc using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libcrcutil-doc

Install libcrcutil-doc Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libcrcutil-doc using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libcrcutil-doc

Install libcrcutil-doc Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libcrcutil-doc using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libcrcutil-doc

How To Uninstall libcrcutil-doc on Debian 9

To uninstall only the libcrcutil-doc package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libcrcutil-doc

Uninstall libcrcutil-doc And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libcrcutil-doc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcrcutil-doc

Remove libcrcutil-doc Configurations and Data

To remove libcrcutil-doc configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libcrcutil-doc

Remove libcrcutil-doc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libcrcutil-doc configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libcrcutil-doc

Dependencies

libcrcutil-doc have the following dependencies:
