How To Install libann-dev on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libann-dev on Debian 9.
What is libann-dev
libann-dev is:
ANN is a library written in C++, which supports data structures and algorithms for both exact and approximate nearest neighbor searching in arbitrarily high dimensions. ANN assumes that distances are measured using any class of distance functions called Minkowski metrics. These include the well known Euclidean distance, Manhattan distance, and max distance. ANN performs quite efficiently for point sets ranging in size from thousands to hundreds of thousands, and in dimensions as high as 20.
This package contains the header files for developing applications with the ANN library.
There are three methods to install libann-dev on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libann-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libann-dev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libann-dev

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libann-dev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libann-dev
Install libann-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libann-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libann-dev
How To Uninstall libann-dev on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libann-dev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libann-dev
Uninstall libann-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libann-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libann-dev
Remove libann-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libann-dev configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libann-dev
