How To Install logtools on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install logtools on Kali Linux.
What is logtools
logtools is:
clfmerge - merge common-log-format web logs in order without sorting (good for when you have a gig of logs).
logprn - like “tail -f” but after a specified time period of inactivity will run a program (such as lpr) and pipe the new data to it)
funnel - pipe one stream of data to several files or processes.
clfsplit - split CLF format web logs by client IP address.
clfdomainsplit - split CLF logs by server domain.
There are three methods to install logtools on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install logtools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install logtools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install logtoolsInstall logtools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install logtools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install logtoolsInstall logtools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install logtools using aptitude by running the following command:

To uninstall only the logtools package we can use the following command:

To uninstall logtools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove logtoolsRemove logtools Configurations and Data
To remove logtools configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge logtoolsRemove logtools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
