In this tutorial we learn how to install SOIL on Fedora 36.

What is SOIL

SOIL is a tiny C library used primarily for uploading textures into OpenGL. It is based on stb_image version 1.16, the public domain code from Sean Barrett. The author has extended it to load TGA and DDS files, and to perform common functions needed in loading OpenGL textures. SOIL can also be used to save and load images in a variety of formats (useful for loading height maps, non-OpenGL applications, etc.)

We can use yum or dnf to install SOIL on Fedora 36. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install SOIL.

Install SOIL on Fedora 36 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install SOIL using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install SOIL

Install SOIL on Fedora 36 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install SOIL using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install SOIL

How To Uninstall SOIL on Fedora 36

To uninstall only the SOIL package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove SOIL
