How To Install tmpwatch on Fedora 34

tmpwatch is A utility for removing files based on when they were last accessed

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install tmpwatch on Fedora 34.

What is tmpwatch

The tmpwatch utility recursively searches through specified directories and removes files which have not been accessed in a specified period of time. Tmpwatch is normally used to clean up directories which are used for temporarily holding files (for example, /tmp). Tmpwatch ignores symlinks, won’t switch filesystems and only removes empty directories and regular files.

We can use yum or dnf to install tmpwatch on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install tmpwatch.

Install tmpwatch on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install tmpwatch using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install tmpwatch

Install tmpwatch on Fedora 34 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

How To Uninstall tmpwatch on Fedora 34

To uninstall only the tmpwatch package we can use the following command:
