How To Install nextpnr-ice40 on Debian 11

In this tutorial we learn how to install nextpnr-ice40
on Debian 11.
What is nextpnr-ice40
nextpnr-ice40 is:
nextpnr aims to be a vendor neutral, timing driven, FOSS FPGA place and route tool.
nextpnr-ice40 is to be used for Lattice iCE40 FPGAs and uses fpga-icestorm to achieve that.
This package can perform place-and-route for Lattice iCE40 devices and contains only the command-line functionality. For the QT GUI, see nextpnr-ice40-qt.
There are three methods to install nextpnr-ice40
on Debian 11. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nextpnr-ice40 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nextpnr-ice40
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nextpnr-ice40
Install nextpnr-ice40 Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nextpnr-ice40
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nextpnr-ice40
Install nextpnr-ice40 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nextpnr-ice40
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nextpnr-ice40
How To Uninstall nextpnr-ice40 on Debian 11
To uninstall only the nextpnr-ice40
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nextpnr-ice40
Uninstall nextpnr-ice40 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nextpnr-ice40
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 11, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nextpnr-ice40
Remove nextpnr-ice40 Configurations and Data
To remove nextpnr-ice40
configuration and data from Debian 11 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nextpnr-ice40
