How To Install gcompris on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install gcompris
on Debian 9.
What is gcompris
gcompris is:
A large collection of educational games for small children, designed to be a unified interface to integrate more educational games.
Language-oriented games contain vocabulary, sounds, and voices for many different languages; check the gcompris-sound packages for your language.
Currently available boards include:
- learning how to use a mouse and keyboard
- learning simple arithmetic
- learning how to read an analog clock
- recognize letters after hearing their names
- reading practice
- small games (memory games, jigsaw puzzles, …)
- etc.
It is designed so that it is easy to implement new boards.
A number of boards are only available if other packages are installed; see the Suggests list for more details.
There are three methods to install gcompris
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install gcompris Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install gcompris
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install gcompris
Install gcompris Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install gcompris
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install gcompris
Install gcompris Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install gcompris
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install gcompris
How To Uninstall gcompris on Debian 9
To uninstall only the gcompris
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove gcompris
Uninstall gcompris And Its Dependencies
To uninstall gcompris
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove gcompris
Remove gcompris Configurations and Data
To remove gcompris
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge gcompris
Remove gcompris configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
