Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install gvmd on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is gvmd

gvmd is:

The Greenbone Vulnerability Manager is the central management service between security scanners and the user clients.

It manages the storage of any vulnerability management configurations and of the scan results. Access to data, control commands and workflows is offered via the XML-based Greenbone Management Protocol (GMP). The primary scanner, openVAS Scanner is controlled directly via protocol OTP while any other remote scanner is coupled with the Open Scanner Protocol (OSP).

This package contains the gvmd files architecture dependent.

There are three methods to install gvmd on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gvmd Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gvmd using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gvmd

Install gvmd Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install gvmd using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install gvmd

Install gvmd Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install gvmd using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install gvmd

How To Uninstall gvmd on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the gvmd package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove gvmd

Uninstall gvmd And Its Dependencies

To uninstall gvmd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove gvmd

Remove gvmd Configurations and Data

To remove gvmd configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge gvmd

Remove gvmd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove gvmd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge gvmd
