How To Install navit on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install navit
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is navit
navit is:
Navit is a car navigation system with routing engine.
Its modular design is capable of using vector maps of various formats for routing and rendering of the displayed map. It’s even possible to use multiple maps at a time.
The GTK+ or SDL user interfaces are designed to work well with touch screen displays. Points of Interest of various formats are displayed on the map.
The current vehicle position is either read from gpsd or directly from NMEA GPS sensors.
The routing engine not only calculates an optimal route to your destination, but also generates directions and even speaks to you using speech-dispatcher.
The Debian packaging for navit doesn’t provide any map. To see, where you can get maps from, see http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php/Main_Page#Maps.
There are three methods to install navit
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install navit Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install navit
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install navit
Install navit Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install navit
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install navit
Install navit Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install navit
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install navit
How To Uninstall navit on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the navit
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove navit
Uninstall navit And Its Dependencies
To uninstall navit
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove navit
Remove navit Configurations and Data
To remove navit
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge navit
Remove navit configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove navit
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge navit
