In this tutorial we learn how to install suck on Kali Linux.

What is suck

suck is:

This package contains software for copying news from an NNTP server to your local machine, and copying replies back up to an NNTP server.

The suck/rpost combination allows you to run your own INN/CNEWS site, controlling where you get your news, and where you post outgoing articles. Suck/rpost use only standard NNTP commands that are used by your favorite news reader (like tin, knews, trn) such as POST and ARTICLE. If you can use tin or knews against an NNTP site, than you can use Suck/Rpost and have multiple site feeds.

NOTE: Suck will not work with obsolete NNTP servers that can’t handle the xhdr command.

There are three methods to install suck on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install suck Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install suck using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install suck

Install suck Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install suck using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install suck

Install suck Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install suck using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install suck

How To Uninstall suck on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the suck package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove suck

Uninstall suck And Its Dependencies

To uninstall suck and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove suck

Remove suck Configurations and Data

To remove suck configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge suck
