How To Install pkgsync on Kali Linux

In this tutorial we learn how to install pkgsync on Kali Linux.

What is pkgsync

pkgsync is:

pkgsync is a tool for keeping multiple machines reasonably similar and clean. Packages can either be in a must be installed', may be installed’ or must not be installed' list (which is presumed to be distributed separately using a tool such as rdist or cfengine). pkgsync will take care of meeting the demands put down in the lists, and then removing everything that is not in the must’ or `may’ list and is not necessary for their operations (as determined by aptitude).

There are three methods to install pkgsync on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pkgsync Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pkgsync using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pkgsync

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pkgsync using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pkgsync

Install pkgsync Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pkgsync using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pkgsync
