In this tutorial we learn how to install pd-deken on Kali Linux.

What is pd-deken

pd-deken is:

deken is a simple and easy to use package manager for Pure Data (Pd).

The deken-plugin integrates with the Pd user interface, where you can search for externals and install them with a single click. Since Pd-0.47, the deken-plugin is integrated into Pure Data (but the Debian package provides an updated plugin)

Available backends that provide packages are:

  • puredata.info (downloads packages via the Pure Data community website and installs them into the per-user installation directory (~/pd-externals))
  • apt (installs Pd packages the Debian way; packaged as “pd-deken-apt”)

There are three methods to install pd-deken on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pd-deken Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-deken using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pd-deken

Install pd-deken Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-deken using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pd-deken

Install pd-deken Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-deken using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pd-deken

How To Uninstall pd-deken on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the pd-deken package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pd-deken

Uninstall pd-deken And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pd-deken and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pd-deken

Remove pd-deken Configurations and Data

To remove pd-deken configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pd-deken

Remove pd-deken configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pd-deken configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pd-deken
