How To Install hexedit on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install hexedit on Kali Linux.

What is hexedit

hexedit is:

hexedit shows a target both in hexadecimal and in ASCII. This target can be a device or a file. You can edit the target and search through it. There are also copy&paste and save to file functions. Is allowed truncating or appending to the target. All modifications are shown in bold.

hexedit is ideal to edit or inspect very large files or devices, as hard disks or its partitions, flash drives, etc. These elements will not be wholly read because hexedit loads a piece at a time.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install hexedit using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install hexedit

Install hexedit Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install hexedit using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install hexedit

Install hexedit Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install hexedit using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install hexedit

How To Uninstall hexedit on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the hexedit package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove hexedit

Uninstall hexedit And Its Dependencies

To uninstall hexedit and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove hexedit

Remove hexedit Configurations and Data

To remove hexedit configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge hexedit
