How To Install git-revise on Kali Linux

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install git-revise on Kali Linux.

What is git-revise

git-revise is:

git revise is a git subcommand to efficiently update, split, and rearrange commits. It is heavily inspired by git rebase, however it tries to be more efficient and ergonomic for patch-stack oriented workflows.

By default, git revise will apply staged changes to a target commit, then update HEAD to point at the revised history. It also supports splitting commits and rewording commit messages.

Unlike git rebase, git revise avoids modifying the working directory or the index state, performing all merges in-memory and only writing them when necessary. This allows it to be significantly faster on large codebases and avoids unnecessarily invalidating builds.

There are three methods to install git-revise on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install git-revise Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install git-revise using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install git-revise

Install git-revise Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install git-revise using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install git-revise

Install git-revise Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install git-revise using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install git-revise

How To Uninstall git-revise on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the git-revise package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove git-revise

Uninstall git-revise And Its Dependencies

To uninstall git-revise and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove git-revise

Remove git-revise Configurations and Data

To remove git-revise configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge git-revise

Remove git-revise configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove git-revise configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge git-revise
