In this tutorial we learn how to install extract on Kali Linux.
What is extract
extract is:
Similar to the well-known “file” command, extract can display meta-data from a file and print the results to stdout.
Currently, libextractor supports the following formats: HTML, MAN, PS, DVI, OLE2 (DOC, XLS, PPT), OpenOffice (sxw), StarOffice (sdw), FLAC, MP3 (ID3v1 and ID3v2), OGG, WAV, S3M (Scream Tracker 3), XM (eXtended Module), IT (Impulse Tracker), NSF(E) (NES music), SID (C64 music), EXIV2, JPEG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, DEB, RPM, TAR(.GZ), LZH, LHA, RAR, ZIP, CAB, 7-ZIP, AR, MTREE, PAX, CPIO, ISO9660, SHAR, RAW, XAR, FLV, REAL, RIFF (AVI), MPEG, QT and ASF.
Also, various additional MIME types are detected. It can also be used to compute hash functions (SHA-1, MD5, ripemd160).
There are three methods to install extract on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install extract Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install extract using apt-get by running the following command:

To uninstall only the extract package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove extractUninstall extract And Its Dependencies
To uninstall extract and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove extractRemove extract Configurations and Data
To remove extract configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge extractRemove extract configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
