How To Install commit-patch on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install commit-patch on Kali Linux.
What is commit-patch
commit-patch is:
Normally version control systems don’t allow fine grained commits. commit-patch allows the user to control exactly what gets committed by letting the user supply a patch to be committed rather than using the files in the current working directory.
commit-patch supports Darcs, Git, Mercurial, Bazaar, Monotone, Subversion, or CVS repositories.
Also included is an Emacs interface to commit-patch. It allows you to just hit C-c C-c in any patch buffer to apply and commit only the changes indicated by the patch, regardless of the changes in your working directory.
There are three methods to install commit-patch on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install commit-patch Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install commit-patch using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install commit-patchInstall commit-patch Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install commit-patch using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install commit-patchInstall commit-patch Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install commit-patch using aptitude by running the following command:

To uninstall only the commit-patch package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove commit-patchUninstall commit-patch And Its Dependencies
To uninstall commit-patch and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove commit-patchRemove commit-patch Configurations and Data
To remove commit-patch configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge commit-patchRemove commit-patch configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove commit-patch configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge commit-patchDependencies
