What is collectd-core

collectd-core is:

collectd is a small daemon which collects system information periodically and provides mechanisms to monitor and store the values in a variety of ways. Since the daemon doesn’t need to startup every time it wants to update the values it’s very fast and easy on the system. Also, the statistics are very fine grained since the files are updated every 10 seconds by default.

The collected information can be used to find current performance bottlenecks (performance analysis) and predict future system load (capacity planning).

This package contains the main program file and the plugins listed below (some of those plugins require additional libraries - for more details see /usr/share/doc/collectd-core/README.Debian.plugins) but no configuration. For a full installation (including configuration), see the “collectd” package. This package allows sites to, e.g., provide customizations (like a custom default configuration) on top of it without having to modify the “collectd” package.

There are three methods to install collectd-core on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install collectd-core Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install collectd-core using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install collectd-core

Install collectd-core Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install collectd-core using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install collectd-core

Install collectd-core Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install collectd-core using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install collectd-core

How To Uninstall collectd-core on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the collectd-core package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove collectd-core

Uninstall collectd-core And Its Dependencies

To uninstall collectd-core and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove collectd-core

Remove collectd-core Configurations and Data

To remove collectd-core configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge collectd-core

Remove collectd-core configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove collectd-core configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge collectd-core
