What is xclip

xclip is:

xclip is a command line utility that is designed to run on any system with an X11 implementation. It provides an interface to X selections (“the clipboard”) from the command line. It can read data from standard in or a file and place it in an X selection for pasting into other X applications. xclip can also print an X selection to standard out, which can then be redirected to a file or another program.

There are three methods to install xclip on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install xclip Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install xclip using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install xclip using apt by running the following command:

Install xclip Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

How To Uninstall xclip on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the xclip package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove xclip

To uninstall xclip and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove xclip

Remove xclip Configurations and Data

To remove xclip configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge xclip

Remove xclip configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
