How To Install userv-git-daemon on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install userv-git-daemon on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is userv-git-daemon
userv-git-daemon is:
userv-git-daemon allows users to publish git repositories which will be published via the git protocol on 9418. This is a bit like git-daemon except that the actual reading of each user’s repositories is done as that user.
The default configuration does nothing: you must (a) manually copy the line from /usr/share/doc/examples/userv-git-daemon.inetd into /etc/inetd.conf and (b) specifically list hostnames and target directories in /etc/userv/git-urlmap.
There are three methods to install userv-git-daemon on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install userv-git-daemon Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install userv-git-daemon using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install userv-git-daemon
Install userv-git-daemon Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install userv-git-daemon using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install userv-git-daemon
Install userv-git-daemon Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install userv-git-daemon using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install userv-git-daemon
How To Uninstall userv-git-daemon on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the userv-git-daemon package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove userv-git-daemon
Uninstall userv-git-daemon And Its Dependencies
To uninstall userv-git-daemon and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove userv-git-daemon
Remove userv-git-daemon Configurations and Data
To remove userv-git-daemon configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge userv-git-daemon
Remove userv-git-daemon configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove userv-git-daemon configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge userv-git-daemon
