This package provides a minimalist boot loader which allows verifying signatures of other UEFI binaries against either the Secure Boot DB/DBX or against a built-in signature database. Its purpose is to allow a small, infrequently-changing binary to be signed by the UEFI CA, while allowing an OS distributor to revision their main bootloader independently of the CA.

After updating apt database, We can install shim-dbg using apt by running the following command:

Install shim-dbg Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install shim-dbg using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install shim-dbg

How To Uninstall shim-dbg on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the shim-dbg package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove shim-dbg

Uninstall shim-dbg And Its Dependencies

To uninstall shim-dbg and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove shim-dbg

Remove shim-dbg Configurations and Data

To remove shim-dbg configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge shim-dbg

Remove shim-dbg configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove shim-dbg configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge shim-dbg
