Smart Common Input Method platform (SCIM) is an input method server and a development platform to make Input Method developers’ lives easier. Canna is a Japanese input system available in Free Software. Canna provides a unified user interface for inputting Japanese. Canna converts kana to kanji based on a client-server model and supports automatic kana-to-kanji conversion.

There are three methods to install scim-canna on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install scim-canna Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install scim-canna using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install scim-canna
