How To Install sbuild-qemu on Debian 12

In this tutorial we learn how to install sbuild-qemu
on Debian 12.
What is sbuild-qemu
sbuild-qemu is:
These utilities facilitate the use of sbuild together with QEMU images using sbuild’s –chroot-mode=autopkgtest. Currently, amd64 and i386 guest architectures are supported, with more in the works.
The following utilities are provided:
- sbuild-qemu-create Create an image suitable for building packages
- sbuild-qemu-update Run apt-get update within the image
- sbuild-qemu Use sbuild with the image to build a package
There are three methods to install sbuild-qemu
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get

and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install sbuild-qemu Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install sbuild-qemu
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install sbuild-qemu
Install sbuild-qemu Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install sbuild-qemu
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install sbuild-qemu
Install sbuild-qemu Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install sbuild-qemu
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install sbuild-qemu
How To Uninstall sbuild-qemu on Debian 12
To uninstall only the sbuild-qemu
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove sbuild-qemu
Uninstall sbuild-qemu And Its Dependencies
To uninstall sbuild-qemu
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove sbuild-qemu
Remove sbuild-qemu Configurations and Data
To remove sbuild-qemu
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge sbuild-qemu
Remove sbuild-qemu configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove sbuild-qemu
