How To Install python-nlopt on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install python-nlopt on Debian 9. python-nlopt is nonlinear optimization library – Python bindings

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install python-nlopt on Debian 9.

What is python-nlopt

python-nlopt is:

NLopt is a free/open-source library for nonlinear optimization, providing a common interface for a number of different free optimization routines available online as well as original implementations of various other algorithms. Its features include:

* Callable from C, C++, Fortran, GNU Octave, Python, GNU Guile, GNU R.
* A common interface for many different algorithms
* Support for large-scale optimization.
* Both global and local optimization algorithms.
* Algorithms using function values only (derivative-free) and also
  algorithms exploiting user-supplied gradients.
* Algorithms for unconstrained optimization, bound-constrained optimization,
  and general nonlinear inequality/equality constraints.

This package contains the Python bindings.

There are three methods to install python-nlopt on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install python-nlopt Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install python-nlopt using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install python-nlopt

Install python-nlopt Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install python-nlopt using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install python-nlopt

Install python-nlopt Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install python-nlopt using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install python-nlopt

How To Uninstall python-nlopt on Debian 9

To uninstall only the python-nlopt package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove python-nlopt

Uninstall python-nlopt And Its Dependencies

To uninstall python-nlopt and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove python-nlopt

Remove python-nlopt Configurations and Data

To remove python-nlopt configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge python-nlopt

Remove python-nlopt configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove python-nlopt configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge python-nlopt

Dependencies

python-nlopt have the following dependencies:
