How To Install osmocom-sgsn on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install osmocom-sgsn
on Debian 9.
What is osmocom-sgsn
osmocom-sgsn is:
This is an implementation of the GPRS Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN). As such it implements the GPRS Mobility Management (GMM) and SM (Session Management).
The SGSN connects via the Gb-interface to the BSS (like the osmo-pcu or an ip.access nanoBTS), and it connects via the GTP protocol to a Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) like openggsn.
There are three methods to install osmocom-sgsn
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install osmocom-sgsn Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install osmocom-sgsn
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install osmocom-sgsn
Install osmocom-sgsn Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install osmocom-sgsn
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install osmocom-sgsn
Install osmocom-sgsn Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install osmocom-sgsn
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install osmocom-sgsn
How To Uninstall osmocom-sgsn on Debian 9
To uninstall only the osmocom-sgsn
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove osmocom-sgsn
Uninstall osmocom-sgsn And Its Dependencies
To uninstall osmocom-sgsn
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove osmocom-sgsn
Remove osmocom-sgsn Configurations and Data
To remove osmocom-sgsn
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge osmocom-sgsn
Remove osmocom-sgsn configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove osmocom-sgsn
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge osmocom-sgsn
