How To Install nncp on Ubuntu 22.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install nncp
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is nncp
nncp is:
NNCP is a package facilitating secure store-and-forward file and mail exchange. It can be thought of as a modern UUCP with Internet smarts.
NNCP supports direct online communication over a LAN or Internet, scheduled communication, offline copies, streaming communication (pipes), and more. It can therefore be used for air-gapped computers that might be communicated with by CD-ROM, tape, or USB stick. It can also be used for intermittent or on-demand links, very slow or high latency links, etc.
NNCP can build up ad-hoc friend-to-friend (F2F) statically routed, darknet, delay-tolerant networks for fire-and-forget secure reliable files, file requests, Internet mail and commands transmission. All packets are integrity checked, end-to-end encrypted, explicitly authenticated by known participants public keys. Onion encryption is applied to relayed packets. Each node acts both as a client and server, can use push and poll behaviour model. Also there is multicasting areas support.
Out-of-box offline sneakernet/floppynet, dead drops, sequential and append-only CD-ROM/tape storages, air-gapped computers support. But online TCP daemon with full-duplex resumable data transmission exists.
There are three methods to install nncp
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nncp Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nncp
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nncp
Install nncp Using apt
Update apt database with apt

sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nncp
using apt

sudo apt -y install nncp
Install nncp Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nncp
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nncp
How To Uninstall nncp on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the nncp
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nncp
Uninstall nncp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nncp
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nncp
Remove nncp Configurations and Data
To remove nncp
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nncp
Remove nncp configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nncp
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nncp
