How To Install nitrokey-authenticator on Ubuntu 22.04

on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is nitrokey-authenticator
nitrokey-authenticator is:
A TOTP authenticator app similar to Google Authenticator. This app, unlike Google Authenticator, does not store TOTP shared secrets on the computer, but inside the USB key. The application supports both, Nitrokey Pro2 and LibremKey. For the latter, however, you need to have libnitrokey version 3.6 or newer installed on your system.
There are three methods to install nitrokey-authenticator
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get

and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nitrokey-authenticator Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nitrokey-authenticator
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nitrokey-authenticator
Install nitrokey-authenticator Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nitrokey-authenticator
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nitrokey-authenticator
Install nitrokey-authenticator Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nitrokey-authenticator
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nitrokey-authenticator
How To Uninstall nitrokey-authenticator on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the nitrokey-authenticator
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nitrokey-authenticator
Uninstall nitrokey-authenticator And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nitrokey-authenticator
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nitrokey-authenticator
Remove nitrokey-authenticator Configurations and Data
To remove nitrokey-authenticator
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nitrokey-authenticator
Remove nitrokey-authenticator configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nitrokey-authenticator
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nitrokey-authenticator
