How To Install nant on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install nant
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is nant
nant is:
NAnt is different than Make. Instead of a model where it is extended with shell-based commands, NAnt is extended using task classes. Instead of writing shell commands, the configuration files are XML-based, calling out a target tree where various tasks get executed. Each task is run by an object that implements a particular Task interface.
NAnt supports different target frameworks:
- Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.0 through 4.0, plus Silverlight
- Mono 1.0 through 4.0
There are three methods to install nant
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude

Install nant Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get

sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nant
using apt-get

After updating apt database, We can install nant

by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nant
Install nant Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nant
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nant
How To Uninstall nant on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the nant
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nant
Uninstall nant And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nant
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nant
Remove nant Configurations and Data
To remove nant
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nant
Remove nant configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nant
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nant
