How To Install libgyoto6 on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install libgyoto6
on Debian 9.
What is libgyoto6
libgyoto6 is:
Gyoto aims at providing a framework for computing orbits and ray-traced images in General relativity. It consists in a shared library (this package), utility programs (in the gyoto package), and a plug-in for the Yorick and Python 2 and 3 programming languages (in yorick-gyoto, python-gyoto and python3-gyoto respectively). Gyoto can be extended with plug-ins (see libgyoto6-dev).
The standard plugin (stdplug) is included in this package. Plug-ins for extending Gyoto in the Python 2 or 3 languages are shipped in the python-gyoto and python3-gyoto packages respectively.
MPI parallelization requires the gyoto-bin and mpi-default-bin packages.
There are three methods to install libgyoto6
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libgyoto6 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libgyoto6
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libgyoto6

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libgyoto6
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libgyoto6
Install libgyoto6 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libgyoto6
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libgyoto6
How To Uninstall libgyoto6 on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libgyoto6
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libgyoto6
Uninstall libgyoto6 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libgyoto6
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libgyoto6
Remove libgyoto6 Configurations and Data
To remove libgyoto6
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libgyoto6
Remove libgyoto6 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libgyoto6
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libgyoto6
