How To Install libcpuid-dev on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libcpuid-dev
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is libcpuid-dev
libcpuid-dev is:
libcpuid is a small C library for x86 CPU detection and feature extraction. Using it, you can:
- get the processor vendor, model, brand string, code name,
- get information about CPU features such as: number of cores or logical
CPUs, cache sizes, CPU clock,
- check if the processor implements a specific instruction set such as
the SSE2, 3DNow!,
- execute the CPUID and RDTSC instructions (portably!)
This package ships the libcpuid development headers.
There are three methods to install libcpuid-dev
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libcpuid-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libcpuid-dev
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libcpuid-dev

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libcpuid-dev
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libcpuid-dev
Install libcpuid-dev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libcpuid-dev
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libcpuid-dev
How To Uninstall libcpuid-dev on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the libcpuid-dev
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libcpuid-dev
Uninstall libcpuid-dev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libcpuid-dev
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libcpuid-dev
Remove libcpuid-dev Configurations and Data
To remove libcpuid-dev
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libcpuid-dev
Remove libcpuid-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libcpuid-dev

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libcpuid-dev
