How To Install libbz2-ocaml on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libbz2-ocaml
on Debian 9.
What is libbz2-ocaml
libbz2-ocaml is:
CamlBZ2 provides OCaml bindings for libbz2 (AKA bzip2), a popular compression library which typically compresses better (i.e., smaller resulting files) than gzip.
Using CamlBZ2 you can read and write compressed “files”, where files can be anything offering an in_channel/out_channel abstraction (files, sockets, …).
Also, with CamlBZ2 you can compress and decompress strings in memory using the bzip2 compression algorithm.
This package contains only the shared runtime stub libraries.
There are three methods to install libbz2-ocaml
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libbz2-ocaml Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libbz2-ocaml
using apt-get

After updating apt database, We can install libbz2-ocaml

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libbz2-ocaml
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libbz2-ocaml
How To Uninstall libbz2-ocaml on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libbz2-ocaml
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libbz2-ocaml
Uninstall libbz2-ocaml And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libbz2-ocaml
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libbz2-ocaml
Remove libbz2-ocaml Configurations and Data
To remove libbz2-ocaml
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libbz2-ocaml
Remove libbz2-ocaml configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libbz2-ocaml
