How To Install libapache2-mod-ruid2 on Debian 9

In this tutorial we learn how to install libapache2-mod-ruid2
on Debian 9.
What is libapache2-mod-ruid2
libapache2-mod-ruid2 is:
ruid2 is based on mod_ruid and mod_suid2 but it has better performance than mod_suid2 because it doesn’t need to kill httpd children after one request.
It makes use of kernel capabilities and after receiving a new request suids again. There are some security issues, for instance if attacker successfully exploits the httpd process, he can set effective capabilities and setuid to root. For this reason, it is recommended to be used in conjunction with a kernel security patch (eg. grsec).
There are three methods to install libapache2-mod-ruid2
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude

Install libapache2-mod-ruid2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get

sudo apt-get update

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

After updating apt database, We can install libapache2-mod-ruid2
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libapache2-mod-ruid2
How To Uninstall libapache2-mod-ruid2 on Debian 9
To uninstall only the libapache2-mod-ruid2
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libapache2-mod-ruid2
Uninstall libapache2-mod-ruid2 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libapache2-mod-ruid2
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libapache2-mod-ruid2

To remove libapache2-mod-ruid2
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libapache2-mod-ruid2
Remove libapache2-mod-ruid2 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libapache2-mod-ruid2

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libapache2-mod-ruid2
