How To Install hyperv-daemons on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install hyperv-daemons
on Debian 9.
What is hyperv-daemons
hyperv-daemons is:
Suite of daemons for Linux guests running on Hyper-V, consisting of hv_fcopy_daemon, hv_kvp_daemon and hv_vss_daemon.
hv_fcopy_daemon provides the file copy service, allowing the host to copy files into the guest.
hv_kvp_daemon provides the key-value pair (KVP) service, allowing the host to get and set the IP networking configuration of the guest. (This requires helper scripts which are not currently included.)
hv_vss_daemon provides the volume shadow copy service (VSS), allowing the host to freeze the guest filesystems while taking a snapshot.
There are three methods to install hyperv-daemons
on Debian 9. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install hyperv-daemons Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install hyperv-daemons
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install hyperv-daemons
Install hyperv-daemons Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install hyperv-daemons
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install hyperv-daemons
Install hyperv-daemons Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install hyperv-daemons
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install hyperv-daemons
How To Uninstall hyperv-daemons on Debian 9
To uninstall only the hyperv-daemons
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove hyperv-daemons
Uninstall hyperv-daemons And Its Dependencies
To uninstall hyperv-daemons
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove hyperv-daemons
Remove hyperv-daemons Configurations and Data
To remove hyperv-daemons
configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge hyperv-daemons
Remove hyperv-daemons configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove hyperv-daemons
