How To Install cl-asdf on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install cl-asdf
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is cl-asdf
cl-asdf is:
ASDF provides the functionality of make and ld.so for Common Lisp software: It drives compilation and dynamic loading for complex Lisp systems with multiple modules and files, and is the de facto standard used by free software written in Common Lisp.
It also includes a utility library, UIOP, to portably deal with many issues that all Common Lisp programs have to deal with, including handling pathnames, accessing the filesystem, executing external programs, user configuration, etc.
Most Common Lisp implementations already provide asdf via (require “asdf”), but not all of them provide an up-to-date version.
There are three methods to install cl-asdf
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install cl-asdf Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install cl-asdf
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install cl-asdf
Install cl-asdf Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install cl-asdf
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install cl-asdf
Install cl-asdf Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install cl-asdf
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install cl-asdf
How To Uninstall cl-asdf on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the cl-asdf
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove cl-asdf
Uninstall cl-asdf And Its Dependencies
To uninstall cl-asdf
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove cl-asdf
Remove cl-asdf Configurations and Data
To remove cl-asdf
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge cl-asdf
Remove cl-asdf configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove cl-asdf
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge cl-asdf
