on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is boxshade
boxshade is:
Boxshade is a program for creating good looking printouts from multiple-aligned protein or DNA sequences. The program does not perform the alignment by itself and requires as input a file that was created by a multiple alignment program or manually edited with respective tools.
Boxshade reads multiple-aligned sequences from either PILEUP-MSF, CLUSTAL-ALN, MALIGNED-data and ESEE-save files (limited to a maximum of 150 sequences with up to 10000 elements each). Various kinds of shading can be applied to identical/similar residues. Output is written to screen or to a file in the following formats: ANSI/VT100, PS/EPS, RTF, HPGL, ReGIS, LJ250-printer, ASCII, xFIG, PICT, HTML
There are three methods to install boxshade
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install boxshade Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install boxshade
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install boxshade

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install boxshade
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install boxshade
Install boxshade Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install boxshade
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install boxshade
How To Uninstall boxshade on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the boxshade
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove boxshade
Uninstall boxshade And Its Dependencies
To uninstall boxshade
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove boxshade
Remove boxshade Configurations and Data
To remove boxshade
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge boxshade
Remove boxshade configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove boxshade
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
