In this tutorial we learn how to install textcat on Fedora 34.

What is textcat

TextCat is an implementation of the text categorization algorithm presented in Cavnar, W. B. and J. M. Trenkle, “N-Gram-Based Text Categorization”. TextCat uses this the technique to implement a written language identification. At the moment, it knows about 69 natural languages (counting Esperanto as a natural language).

We can use yum or dnf to install textcat on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install textcat.

Install textcat on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install textcat using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install textcat

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh
