In this tutorial we learn how to install flac123 on Fedora 34.

What is flac123

flac123 is a command-line program for playing FLAC audio files. FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is an open format for losslessly compressing audio data. Grossly oversimplified, FLAC is similar to Ogg Vorbis, but lossless. flac123 implements mpg123’s ‘Remote Control’ interface via option -R. This is useful if you’re writing a frontend to flac123 which needs a consistent, reliable interface to control playback.

We can use yum or dnf to install flac123 on Fedora 34. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install flac123.

Install flac123 on Fedora 34 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

The output should look something like this:

After updating yum database, We can install flac123 using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install flac123

Install flac123 on Fedora 34 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

How To Uninstall flac123 on Fedora 34

To uninstall only the flac123 package we can use the following command:
