What is binwalk

binwalk is:

Binwalk is a tool for searching a given binary image for embedded files and executable code. Specifically, it is designed for identifying files and code embedded inside of firmware images. Binwalk uses the libmagic library, so it is compatible with magic signatures created for the Unix file utility.

Binwalk also includes a custom magic signature file which contains improved signatures for files that are commonly found in firmware images such as compressed/archived files, firmware headers, Linux kernels, bootloaders, filesystems, etc.

This package is an empty package, because the binary tool is already provided with the library, dependency of this package.

There are three methods to install binwalk on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install binwalk Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install binwalk using apt-get by running the following command:

After updating apt database, We can install binwalk using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install binwalk

How To Uninstall binwalk on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the binwalk package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove binwalk

Uninstall binwalk And Its Dependencies

To uninstall binwalk and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove binwalk

Remove binwalk Configurations and Data

To remove binwalk configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge binwalk

Remove binwalk configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove binwalk configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
