How To Install latexdiff on Ubuntu 22.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install latexdiff on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is latexdiff
latexdiff is:
latexdiff compares two LaTeX files and marks up significant differences between them (i.e. a diff for LaTeX files). It generates a new LaTeX file containing the annotated differences.
Various options are available for visual markup using standard LaTeX packages such as ‘color.sty’. Changes not directly affecting visible text, for example in formatting commands, are still marked in the LaTeX source.
A rudimentary revision facilility is provided by another Perl script, ’latexrevise’, which accepts or rejects all changes. Manual editing of the difference file can be used to override this default behaviour and accept or reject selected changes only.
There are three methods to install latexdiff on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install latexdiff Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install latexdiff using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install latexdiff

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install latexdiff using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install latexdiff
Install latexdiff Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install latexdiff using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install latexdiff
How To Uninstall latexdiff on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the latexdiff package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove latexdiff
Uninstall latexdiff And Its Dependencies
To uninstall latexdiff and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove latexdiff
Remove latexdiff Configurations and Data
To remove latexdiff configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge latexdiff
Remove latexdiff configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove latexdiff configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge latexdiff
