How To Install kma on Ubuntu 22.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install kma
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is kma
kma is:
KMA is mapping a method designed to map raw reads directly against redundant databases, in an ultra-fast manner using seed and extend. KMA is particularly good at aligning high quality reads against highly redundant databases, where unique matches often does not exist. It works for long low quality reads as well, such as those from Nanopore. Non- unique matches are resolved using the “ConClave” sorting scheme, and a consensus sequence are outputtet in addition to other common attributes.
There are three methods to install kma
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install kma Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install kma
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install kma
Install kma Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install kma
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install kma
Install kma Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install kma
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install kma
How To Uninstall kma on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the kma
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove kma
Uninstall kma And Its Dependencies
To uninstall kma
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove kma
Remove kma Configurations and Data
To remove kma
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge kma
Remove kma configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove kma
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge kma
