How To Install hsmwiz on Ubuntu 22.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install hsmwiz on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is hsmwiz
hsmwiz is:
HSMWiz is a frontend for OpenSC to ease handling of the NitroKey HSM USB smart card. It might work with other smart cards as well, I’m not certain. Basically, it is just boilerplate that does nothing more than what is already described in the excellent OpenSC tutorial (https://github.com/OpenSC/OpenSC/wiki/SmartCardHSM) for the Smart Card HSM. However, there’s some annoying issues with that – multiple tools are needed (pkcs11-tool, pkcs15-tool, sc-hsm-tool, OpenSSL) and output formats are sometimes not very user friendly (e.g., public keys are exported as binary DER blobs instead of PEM files). So I wrote this little frontend to encapsulate common tasks a bit. The hardware this was develped with is the NitroKey HSM, which is a quite affordable smart-card based USB HSM.
There are three methods to install hsmwiz on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install hsmwiz Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install hsmwiz using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install hsmwiz
Install hsmwiz Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install hsmwiz using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install hsmwiz
Install hsmwiz Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install hsmwiz using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install hsmwiz
How To Uninstall hsmwiz on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the hsmwiz package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove hsmwiz
Uninstall hsmwiz And Its Dependencies
To uninstall hsmwiz and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove hsmwiz
Remove hsmwiz Configurations and Data
To remove hsmwiz configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge hsmwiz
Remove hsmwiz configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove hsmwiz configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge hsmwiz
