How To Install guix on Ubuntu 22.04

What is guix
guix is:
Guix is an advanced distribution of the GNU operating system developed by the GNU Project—which respects the freedom of computer users.
Guix supports transactional upgrades and roll-backs, unprivileged package management, and more. When used as a standalone distribution, Guix supports declarative system configuration for transparent and reproducible operating systems.
It provides Guile Scheme APIs, including high-level embedded domain-specific languages (EDSLs) to define packages and whole-system configurations.
There are three methods to install guix
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install guix Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install guix
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install guix
Install guix Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install guix
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install guix
Install guix Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install guix
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install guix
How To Uninstall guix on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the guix
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove guix
Uninstall guix And Its Dependencies
To uninstall guix
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove guix
Remove guix Configurations and Data
To remove guix
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge guix
Remove guix configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove guix
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge guix
