Gitlint is a git commit message linter written in Python, it checks your commit messages for style.

Great for use as a commit-msg git hook or as part of your gating script in a CI pipeline (e.g. Jenkins).

There are three methods to install gitlint on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install gitlint Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install gitlint using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install gitlint
