How To Install e2wm on Ubuntu 22.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install e2wm on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is e2wm

e2wm is:

This is an implementation of introducing window management to Emacs.

  • Management of list of editable buffers
  • Assignment of windows for pop-up buffers
  • Switching window layout like the perspective in eclipse
  • Plug-in extension

The current implementation has following perspectives:

  • code : main coding layout
  • two : side by side layout
  • doc : reading documentation layout
  • dashboard : showing plug-ins like dashboard in Mac OSX
  • array : selecting buffers like expose in Mac OSX

There are three methods to install e2wm on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install e2wm Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install e2wm using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install e2wm

Install e2wm Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install e2wm using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install e2wm

Install e2wm Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install e2wm using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install e2wm

How To Uninstall e2wm on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the e2wm package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove e2wm

Uninstall e2wm And Its Dependencies

To uninstall e2wm and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove e2wm

Remove e2wm Configurations and Data

To remove e2wm configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge e2wm

Remove e2wm configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove e2wm configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge e2wm
