How To Install dvbsnoop on Ubuntu 22.04

What is dvbsnoop
dvbsnoop is:
This sniffer program can monitor, analyze, debug, dump or view DVB / MPEG / DSM-CC / MHP stream information:
- ISO/DVB basic sections: BAT, PAT, SDT, NIT, …
- DSM-CC: INT, MPE, MPE FEC, Datagram, …
- TS (Transport Stream), PS (Program Stream), PES (Packetized Elementary Stream)
Input can be a live stream from a DVB card, or a recorded stream.
For DVB cards, it can also dump frontend information and status, and make a PID scan.
There are three methods to install dvbsnoop
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install dvbsnoop Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install dvbsnoop
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install dvbsnoop

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install dvbsnoop

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude

How To Uninstall dvbsnoop on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the dvbsnoop
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove dvbsnoop
Uninstall dvbsnoop And Its Dependencies
To uninstall dvbsnoop
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove dvbsnoop
Remove dvbsnoop Configurations and Data
To remove dvbsnoop
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge dvbsnoop
