What is dicod

dicod is:

GNU Dico is an implementation of the DICT protocol as defined in RFC 2229. It is fully modular: the daemon itself (dicod) provides only the server functionality, and knows nothing about database formats. Actual searches are performed by functions supplied in loadable modules. A single module can serve one or more databases.

This package contains the dicod server, in addition to the following plugins:

  • ldap: provides LDAP support
  • substr: provides a substring search strategy
  • stratall: provides the ‘all’ search strategy

There are three methods to install dicod on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install dicod Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install dicod using apt-get by running the following command:
