plocate is a locate(1) based on posting lists, giving much faster searches on a much smaller index. It is a drop-in replacement for mlocate in nearly all aspects, and is fast on SSDs and non-SSDs alike.

There are three methods to install plocate on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install plocate Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install plocate using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install plocate

Install plocate Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install plocate using apt by running the following command:
