In this tutorial we learn how to install nsscache on Ubuntu 22.04.

What is nsscache

nsscache is:

Synchronises local NSS caches, such as those served by the libnss-cache module, against remote directory services, such as LDAP, or prebuild cache files from an HTTP server. This can be used alongside the libnss-cache package to keep user account information, groups, netgroups, and automounts up to date.

Use of nsscache and libnss-cache eliminates the need for using a cache daemon such as nscd with networked NSS modules such as libnss-ldap.

There are three methods to install nsscache on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install nsscache Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install nsscache using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install nsscache
