What is nmon

nmon is:

nmon is a systems administrator, tuner, benchmark tool. It can display the CPU, memory, network, disks (mini graphs or numbers), file systems, NFS, top processes, resources (Linux version & processors) and on Power micro-partition information.

Data is displayed on the screen and updated once every two seconds, using a dumb screen. However, you can easily change this interval to a longer or shorter time period.

The nmon tool can also capture the same data to a text file for later analysis and graphing for reports. The output is in a spreadsheet format (.csv).

There are three methods to install nmon on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install nmon Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install nmon using apt-get by running the following command:

After updating apt database, We can install nmon using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install nmon using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install nmon

How To Uninstall nmon on Ubuntu 22.04

To uninstall only the nmon package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove nmon

Uninstall nmon And Its Dependencies

To uninstall nmon and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove nmon

Remove nmon Configurations and Data

To remove nmon configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge nmon

Remove nmon configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove nmon configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nmon
