How To Install nescc on Ubuntu 22.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install nescc on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is nescc
nescc is:
nesC (pronounced “NES-see”) is an extension to the C programming language designed to embody the structuring concepts and execution model of TinyOS. TinyOS is an event-driven operating system designed for sensor network nodes that have very limited resources (e.g., 8K bytes of program memory, 512 bytes of RAM).
This package contains the nesC compiler and its documentation. It also provides nesC syntax support for the editors vim and emacs together with all gtksourceview and kdepart based editors.
There are three methods to install nescc on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nescc Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nescc using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nescc
Install nescc Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nescc using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nescc
Install nescc Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nescc using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nescc
How To Uninstall nescc on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the nescc package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nescc
Uninstall nescc And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nescc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nescc
Remove nescc Configurations and Data
To remove nescc configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nescc
Remove nescc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nescc configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nescc
