How To Install mmdebstrap on Ubuntu 22.04

What is mmdebstrap
mmdebstrap is:
Downloads, unpacks and installs Debian packages to either directly create a directory which can be chrooted into, or a tarball of it. In contrast to debootstrap it uses apt, supports more than one mirror, automatically uses security and updates mirrors for Debian stable chroots, is 3-6 times faster, produces smaller output by removing unnecessary cruft, is bit-by-bit reproducible if $SOURCE_DATE_EPOCH is set, allows unprivileged operation using Linux user namespaces, fakechroot or proot and can setup foreign architecture chroots using qemu-user.
There are three methods to install mmdebstrap
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install mmdebstrap Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install mmdebstrap
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install mmdebstrap

After updating apt database, We can install mmdebstrap

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install mmdebstrap
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install mmdebstrap
How To Uninstall mmdebstrap on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the mmdebstrap
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove mmdebstrap
Uninstall mmdebstrap And Its Dependencies
To uninstall mmdebstrap
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove mmdebstrap
Remove mmdebstrap Configurations and Data
To remove mmdebstrap
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge mmdebstrap

We can use the following command to remove mmdebstrap
